FOR SAFE KEEPING
"For Safe Keeping" begins in November1895 at the Congress, Arizona train station. Li Chan, a 17-year-old Chinese man and Maria, a young Mexican-Yavapai Indian girl, age 15, and Joey (her little brother), 4 years old, meet at the Congress General Store, both needing water. Six months later after unforeseen circumstances leave them both alone and with no money, they have no choice but to find their way back to Li’s home in San Luis Obispo, California. They can’t afford Train Tickets so they decide to walk. Maria’s drunken step-father convinces the Deputy Sheriff to hunt them down after he discovers that his wife’s egg money is missing. Their journey isn’t easy and they soon learn that growing up comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility. This exciting and romantic adventure has the authentic feel of the last years of the Old West as Li Chan and Maria struggle with their fears and feelings.
